March 2024 Newsletter

Below is a copy of the March 2024 members newsletter:

Dear Member,

Welcome to North Lincolnshire Community Energy (NLCE) members!

As someone invested in zero carbon energy and supporting the community of North Lincolnshire, we thought you would be interested to see how far we’ve come since our previous communications.

As a result of your continued support, we have now installed solar panels on 12 schools in Scunthorpe which is offering a significant financial and environmental saving.

They are:

  1. St Hugh’s
  2. Bottesford Junior
  3. Holme Valley primary
  4. Berkeley primary
  5. Frederick Gough secondary
  6. Priory Lane primary
  7. The Grange primary
  8. St Luke’s primary
  9. St Luke’s primary – Foundation annexe
  10. Crosby primary
  11. Lincoln Gardens primary
  12. Oakfield primary

What’s Happening Next?

Next on the list is our biggest installation yet – John Leggott College. This project will cut the college’s electricity bills by about half and save around 54 tonnes of CO2 per year.

We are then expanding our remit to include community buildings, with Ashby Hub, The Baths Hall, North Lincolnshire Museum and Normanby Gateway lined up to receive the next installations.

Educating the next generation

NLCE are committed to providing social value opportunities for the local community. So far, we have engaged with hundreds of Primary and Secondary School children to develop their understanding and awareness of the benefits of installing renewable energy at their school and how it supports a sustainable environment for people who live in North Lincolnshire.

A warm thank you to our delivery partner, Joju Solar for their contribution to the school workshops and providing continuous support to NLCE by engaging with the local community.

Community share offer investment starts at just £50

The clean energy project has been funded thanks to £1.4m of Towns Fund money, enabling all the installations to be carried out free of charge.

Last year’s community share offer was launched to enable the project to continue, raising £585,367, which will enable us to move onto phase three of the programme.

Minimum investment in the share offer was just £50, opening it up to as many local residents as possible.

As well as helping schools enjoy cheap electricity, investors can also expect around 5% return on their money.

NLCE anticipate launching the second share offer in Summer 2024, we will keep members updated on how they can further invest in NLCE and when the share offer officially launches
