NLCE & North Lincs Council partnership wins award
North Lincolnshire Council, for supporting North Lincolnshire Community Energy (NLCE) from the outset, won the Supportive Local Authority Award at the prestigious Community Energy Awards last night in Manchester.
North Lincolnshire Council utilised a £1.4 million Towns Fund grant to get the NLCE cooperative off the ground, and the council also helped find suitable host sites including schools and community buildings. NLCE has formed part of their ‘Green Future’ Climate Action Plan, helping to achieve Net Zero by 2030 and decoupling carbon emissions from economic growth.
With the first projects launched in January 2023, sunny weather in Scunthorpe resulted in an excellent first quarter’s generation for NLCE. Generation from the first six school solar arrays commissioned by NLCE was 200,906kWh, more than 30% ahead of budget. This resulted in increased savings on electricity bills for the schools and an increased surplus for NLCE to invest in more solar panels in North Lincolnshire.
NLCE will be continuing to grow in the coming years: you can be notified about new Share Offers by using the ‘register your interest’ page.
The Community Energy Awards are run by Community Energy England and bring together individuals, organisations, and initiatives that are making significant contributions to the advancement of sustainable and locally-driven energy solutions.
